What is The String Gathering?

The Spring String Gathering is an indoor music festival in Baraboo, WI.

So what’s the gist of this “jam-fest”?

In the hotel, there will be designated jam floors and non-jam floors. If you want to jam, get a room on a jam floor and open your door to folks who want to jam. We will also have sponsored jam suites that will be hosting jams, showcases and offering snacks and beverages for pickers.


What kind of music is welcome?

The String Gathering is a traditional music festival. While predominately, Bluegrass and Old-time, we also welcome Cajun, Irish, Scottish, etc…. There might also be jams for old country, gypsy jazz, country blues, French Canadian… you name it. If you don’t find a jam that fits your genre, open your door and start your own!

Who should attend the fest?

Bluegrass and Old-Time musicians (or fans of the music) should attend. This is a fest for musicians, by musicians and was created to bring together pickers from all over the Midwest to play some great music! There might even be enough room for a small contra/square dance! So bring your shoes!

How much does the fest cost?

It’s FREE! There is no cost to attend The String Gathering. Jam all you want!

Who’s playing/What’s the schedule?

You’re playing! This fest is for musicians; by musicians. There will be various themed jams, hosted by players of note from around the area. But the main attraction is you. Come pick!

What is the hotel rate?

Our group rate for rooms at the Clarion Convention Center is $58 a night. Be sure to mention that you’re attending the “String Gathering” @ the musician rate to get our great rate! Call the Clarion at (608) 356-6422.

When does the fest start/end?

The hotel will be working hard to allow for an early checkin @ 3pm on Friday and a late checkout on Sunday @ noon.
